Homemade Peanut Butter

When grocery shopping, I diligently look at the ingredients on food labels for anything unrecognizable. Considering the number of ingredients that are sometimes found on the back of a peanut butter jar, it was surprising to me when I found out that it really only take two simple ingredients to make fresh peanut butter. Now I’m hooked! Your tastebuds will be astonished by the difference too.

What you need:

1. 1 cup uncooked peanuts (preferably unsalted)
2. 1/2 teaspoon salt
3. Food Processor
4. 350 degree fahrenheit oven

First, heat the oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit. Then spread the peanuts out on a cookie sheet or a roasting pan and sprinkle with the salt. Roast for about 8 minutes until the peanuts are crunchy but not burnt (monitor carefully to avoid burning). Once they are cooked all the way through, remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. When cooled, they are ready to take a spin in the food processor until the peanuts are a smooth consistency. It will take about 5 – 10 minutes for the natural oils to be fully released and the peanut butter to be completely creamy.

For storage, I cleaned out one of my glass food jars that was previously home to store bought peanut butter.
